Pure Olive Oil for Soap making 05/11/2012
For soap making it is vitally important that you know you are buying 100% pure olive oil and not an oil mixed with some other oil. Each oil you use in soap making has its own SAP value. If Olive oil is mixed with other oils then the ratio of oils to lye water will be incorrect which could result in a soap being too oily or even worse, to caustic. In Australia it is illegal to mix oils unless it specifically states the contents on the label. In Europe the laws are more relaxed and there is a lot more mixing of oils. With European imports you purchase from the Supermarket you cannot guarantee you are getting 100% pure Olive oil. You soon find out when you start making your soap and a soap you regularly make does not turn out as predicted after using an imported Olive oil from certain European countries. At Robyn's Soap House we source our Olive oil straight from the local Olive groves and know we are purchasing the genuine product. Add Comment Soapmaking supplies - Olive Oil 05/11/2012

This segment was aired on Channel 9 a few months ago, but for those that missed it you might be interested in knowing a little more about us by clicking on the link below. Recently a customer booked to have her birthday celebration at Robyn's Soap House. This party was a first for Robyn's Soap House and I was keen to make it a great success. On the appointed day nine 30+ year olds arrived at 10 am. They had a guided tour of where we make our soap and then settled down to the table I had set up for having some fun with soap. The first hour was taken up with creating soap balls (or other shapes) with powdered soap, flowers and essential oils. There was a lot of chatting and laughter and everyone was happy with their results. The second hour was taken up making bath bombs. The participants chose their moulds, colours, flowers and essential oils and we proceeded to mix the ingredients which were divided up amongst the participants. Once again they had a lot of fun and the end results looked amazing. A few days later I received an email from the "birthday girl" saying it was a great morning and everyone enjoyed themselves very much and loved using the products they made. The above I hope will be the first of many Creative Soapmaking Parties to come. It is a chance for people to enjoy one another's company, be creative, have something delightful to take home (maybe show and tell) and a great way to celebrate an occasion with your friends. The canteen of a large company was supplying us with our recycled milk carton needs for a number of years. Recently this company was taken over and have now moved to another location some distance away. Although we have large tub and silicon log moulds, there are still a few types of soaps where we prefer to use milk cartons as moulds. If anyone can help us out with supplying recycled milk cartons we would be very grateful. Cartons can be given to us at any of our Farmer's Markets or we can pick up from you if you live in the vicinity of one of our markets. You are welcome to contact us if you need further information. These bars of Frangipani soaps are sitting on my work table ready for labelling. These soaps have been very popular for the past couple of years mainly because they look and smell great and remind people of holiday destinations in northern Queensland or even Hawaii. Saffron Lemon Swirl ... our popular new soap 11/09/2011
About three months ago I had the urge to create yet another new soap! Mmm, I thought, what if I added some saffron and green clay to the soap batch and gave it a swirl with a chopstick. Customers are loving it ... it is racing out the door ... of course the essential oils of Lemon Myrtle and Lemon Grass give it a delicious smell!!! It is now listed on this website under the "Products" link. I think it is the perfect soap for gift giving over the Festive Season and of course you need to order one for yourself to make you feel pampered and extra special. Soapmaking Demonstrations 09/15/2011
Penry and I love giving talks and soap making demonstrations to groups and having the opportunity to sell our products after wards. This week has been particularly busy: Monday we spoke to a War Widows group in Glen Waverley, Wednesday we spoke to a Probus group in Mt Waverley, today we spoke to a community group in Ashburton and tomorrow we will be speaking to a Senior Citizens group in Montrose. If you are a member of a group that would like us to speak and demonstrate soapmaking to, please give us a call or send us an email. We take bookings up to 12 months in advance. Charcoal Soap 07/18/2011
At last the Charcoal soap has made it to our Internet product range (You will find it under the heading "Unisex Soap". We made a small batch a few months ago and took it to the weekend Farmer's Markets, the batch sold so quickly we had to make a larger batch and wait for it to cure before I could make it available on this site. Soap Sculptures 06/29/2011
Some great sculptures carved by art students at a school in South Australia using our soap. The theme was around the Cubist movement. The soap the students started off with was the size of a 600ml milk container. |
