Milk Cartons - clean, well washed - needed urgently

13/2/2012

All good things come to an end some time.  The canteen of a large company was supplying us with our recycled milk carton needs for a number of years.  Recently this company was taken over and have now moved to another location some distance away.

Although we have large tub and silicon log moulds, there are still a few types of soaps where we prefer to use milk cartons as moulds.  If anyone can help us out with supplying recycled milk cartons we would be very grateful.   Cartons can be given to us at any of our Farmer's Markets or we can pick up from you if you live in the vicinity of one of our markets.

You are welcome to contact us if you need further information.

Saffron Lemon Swirl ... our popular new soap

9/11/2011

Picture

About three months ago I had the urge to create yet another new soap!  Mmm, I thought, what if I added some saffron  and green clay to the soap batch and gave it a swirl with a chopstick.  Customers are loving it ... it is racing out the door ... of course the essential oils of Lemon Myrtle and Lemon Grass give it a delicious smell!!!   It is now listed on this website under the "Products" link.  I think it is the perfect soap for gift giving over the Festive Season and of course you need to order one for yourself to make you feel pampered and extra special.

Penry and I love giving talks and soap making demonstrations to groups and having the opportunity to sell our products after wards. This week has been particularly busy:  Monday we spoke to a War Widows group in Glen Waverley, Wednesday we spoke to a Probus group in Mt Waverley, today we spoke to a community group in Ashburton and tomorrow we will be speaking to a Senior Citizens group in Montrose.   If you are a member of a group that would like us to speak and demonstrate soapmaking to, please give us a call or send  us an email.  We take bookings up to 12 months in advance.

At last the Charcoal soap has made it to our Internet product range (You will find it under the heading "Unisex Soap".  We made a small batch a few months ago and took it to the weekend Farmer's Markets, the batch sold so quickly we had to make a larger batch and wait for it to cure before I could make it available on this site.

Soap Sculptures

29/6/2011

Some great sculptures carved by art students at a school in South Australia using our soap. The theme was around the Cubist movement.  The soap the students started off with was the size of a 600ml milk container.

Today we unmoulded a new soap which will be ready in four weeks time: Lime & Poppy Seed. This soap has come about because a number of regular customers have asked for it. I'm sure they will be very impressed.

Another new soap about to come off the drying racks is Charcoal soap. Looks and feels great and I'm sure many customers will love it!

40th Wedding Anniversary

19/5/2011

Penry and I celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary on 8th May. We stayed three nights at the Grand Hyatt in Collins Street, Melbourne and spent a couple of days exploring our own City. We were lucky in that we won a special rate at the Hyatt through Coxy's Big Break on Channel 7. The Hyatt has been totally renovated and modernised over the past few years and we were very impressed with its new decor!

Having a few days away meant we totally re-charged our batteries and are back making soap with a new vigour.

Wool Wash & Car Wash

Melt down about 300 grams of soap scrap with around 16 litres of water, add some eucalyptus essential oil and you have the perfect Wool Wash.  This also makes a perfect car wash.

Soap Balls

120 grams of powdered or grains of handmade soap
20 ml of water.
Place the powdered soap into a bowl
Add water and/or essential or fragrant oils
Mix together with your hands until the mixture becomes the consistency of bread dough.
Roll into a ball and leave to dry for around four weeks.

Washing Machine Powder

300 grams of grated natural soap powder (purchase from Robyn's Soap House)
3 cups of Borax (purchase from supermarket)
3 cups of washing soda (purchase from supermarket)

Method:
Place soap powder into a large bowl, add Borax and Washing Soda, stir until combined.

Use 1/4 cup in front loader
Use 1/2 cup in top loader

Vinegar can be used as a fabric softener
